Families would pack up their belongings; wrap their meat in tanned deerskins and pack their furs on the sleds and toboggans and set out for the same grove of sugar maples they harvested sap from year after year. At the time of sugaring muskrats were trapped; men would fish on the lakes, and boys would catch small fish in the open creeks.
