Season: Spring (Ziigwaan)

Lesson plans that are appropriate for March though May implementation, either by theme or activity For many, the return of the crows in March signaled the return of spring and the beginning of maple-sugaring season. Families would pack up their belongings; wrap their meat in tanned deerskins and pack their furs on the sleds and toboggans and set out for the same grove of sugar maples they harvested sap from year after year. At the time of sugaring muskrats were trapped; men would fish on the lakes, and boys would catch small fish in the open creeks.
