Lesson plans that are appropriate for December through February implementation, either by theme or activity When the lakes froze and the snows came, Ojibwe families would go into their wintering grounds in the woods. The men would go hunting, traveling on snowshoes. The women would stay at camp butchering and drying the meat from the hunts. Storytelling is a winter activity only, in most Ojibwe communities. It is believed that stories are told only when snow is on the ground and the animals are asleep.
